APPROACH

PsychoNeuroEnergetics (PNE) is a body-based modality developed by Judith Johnson to help support individuals in unwinding trauma paralysis.

This approach involves three main parts of the brain that work together when dealing with trauma and resolving survival patterning: 1) the thinking brain (Neocortex), 2) the emotional brain (Amygdala), and 3) the survival brain (Brainstem).

Each session involves applying gentle pressure to specific neurosomatic points on the back of your neck where the dual vagus nerve exits the skull, which are known in Traditional Chinese Medicine as the "Wind Pool" points. Through point holding, the body enters into a heightened nervous system functional awareness wherein a traumatic imprint can be accessed, felt, and allowed to safely process and discharge via the body.

The pressure on these points also helps you relax deeply by:

  • Activating your body's "rest and digest" mode (like when you feel calm and peaceful)

  • Helping you feel more connected to yourself

  • Deactivating the "fight or flight" stress response

At a very base level, stimulation of the vagus nerve induces a state of deep relaxation by moving the client into the parasympathetic division of the nervous system, allowing access to their body’s natural process of “rest and digest” and connection to a deeper sense of self and emotional wellbeing.

WHO IS PNE FOR?

PNE may be for those who:

  • Feel stuck in the body and/or mind

  • Are curious to understand how their body has experienced and is experiencing their inner and outer worlds

  • Have spent years in talk therapy and may feel like there’s more to explore

  • Simply want a safe space to slow down and listen to what the body has to say
